How could someone ever be bored in Jacksonville, Florida? There are so many things to do. Below are just some of the options available to residents or anyone passing through during their travels.

The Southbank Riverwalk is a little over a mile long so walking shoes won’t be necessary. Running along the St. Johns River, it passes by shops, restaurants, and Friendship Fountain. Plus, a short walk across the drawbridge offers additional shops and restaurants just in case nothing tickled your fancy.

Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens provides ample space for children to entertain themselves, as well as glimpses at interesting animals like wallabies, anteaters, and pancake tortoises. For a true animal lover, spend some time at B.E.A.K.S. It’s a place that rescues and rehabilitates injured birds, and it’s a great spot to see recovering eagles and owls.

Take a long bike ride and clear your head at the Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail. With over 14 miles of paved trail, bring some water and perhaps a picnic lunch. For the outdoorsy types, another great spot is the Tree Hill Nature Center, which is a 50-acre nature preserve.

Perhaps Budweiser is not your beer of choice, but don’t miss the Anheuser-Busch Brewery. Take a free brewery tour and get a complimentary sample at the end. The beer connoisseur will also enjoy River City Brewing Company and Southend Brewery & Smokehouse.

Art lovers always want to be pointed in the direction of the best galleries and museums. In Jacksonville, those are Stellers Gallery and Cummer Museum of Art, respectively. For locals, Stellers is much more than just a gallery. It is a place to get portraitures, custom frames, and have art restored. For those just visiting, it's the location to see beautiful works of art and learn more about the artists. As far as museums are concerned, Cummer is massive with over 5000 pieces in the permanent collection. The Art Connections section allows kids to do some hands-on activities which can be a godsend for parents of fidgety children.

All of the above recommendations are permanent fixtures in Jacksonville, but there are also some seasonal events worth mentioning. The Jacksonville Jazz Festival is an annual event that takes place in May. The Jacksonville Light Parade takes place in November, and is actually a boat parade on St. Johns River. And lastly, the Southern Women’s Show happens in October and is four days of everything that a woman would need, from fashion tips to fitness advice and beauty products.

As helpful as these tips might be, nothing beats getting out in the city and discovering your own favorite spots. Good luck!
