South America is home to some of the world's most dangerous spiders. The world's largest spider is found in South America as well as the world's smallest spider. These spiders are often colorful and they can easily blend in with the vegetation of the area.

The Panama blonde (psalmpopoeus pulcher) is one of South America's most dangerous spiders. It is said to be a little less aggressive than other spiders, but when it does become aggressive it is a very dangerous contender. This spider tends to burrow, especially when it is young.

One of the most dangerous spiders of South America is also the world's largest spider. The Goliath bird-eating spider (Theraphosa leblondi) can be found in French Guinea, Surinam and Brazil. Its legspan can reach eleven inches. The males often have the largest legspans, but the females tend to be heavier. This is an extremely aggressive spider that is known to attack humans in certain situations.

Another dangerous spider in South America is also the world's smallest spider. The Patu Digua has a legspan of 0.015 inches as an adult. They are found in Columbia and are known to be quite aggressive. Since they are so small, experts argue about how potent their venom actually is when injected into a human.

The most dangerous spider in South America is the Brazilian Wandering Spider. These spiders are large and are considered one of the most venomous spiders in the world. They are extremely venomous, fast and aggressive. They are known to bite humans and are most often found in Brazil.

The Banana Spider (phoneutria) is considered one of the most dangerous spiders in South America as well. It is most often found in the rain forests. It is also found in cities in southeastern Brazil. In the 1970's, this spider was responsible for more than 7,000 people being hospitalized in southeastern Brazil. This is a large spider that has a body length of approximately 1.3 inches and it is considered extremely aggressive. It's venom is neurotoxic. There is currently no anti-venom available to counteract the dangerous effects of this spiders bite. Those who are bitten must get medical attention immediately or death may soon follow.

All of these South American spiders are considered venomous and dangerous. Their bites can cause serious medical complications and even death if not treated in a timely manner. These spiders are predators and though they mostly prey on insects, they have been known to bite humans as well. Those who travel to South America should make themselves aware of these spiders and avoid the areas that they are known to inhabit.
