Decorating your porch for Halloween is one of the funnest things you can do for the Halloween season. The various themes that you can draw upon are varied, and you have every opportunity to get creative. Creating a Halloween themed front porch is far more involved than simply putting a jack o' lantern on the front porch. This Halloween, consider some of these great Halloween porch themes to get your family into the spooky season:

The Witching Hour

Witches have always been a huge part of Halloween, and there are few Halloween porch themes that are easier to implement. Every witch themed porch has to begin with a boiling cauldron. This can be effectively done with a large black pot. To create the effect of boiling water one can use a smoke machine or any number of store bought items. Add to this a black cat, various witch's brew ingredients, and a realistic life sized witch. Of course, you can be that witch yourself if you are planning on entertaining the trick or treaters.

Ghosts and Ghouls

Another popular Halloween front porch theme is that of the ghosts and goblins. It is very easy to create any number of ghosts, ghouls and goblins to haunt your front porch. Do not forget to include all of the spooky sounds of the season. Most every major retailer offers a ghost soundtrack. Use string or fishing line to hang the goblins from various parts of your porch.

Modern Day Horror

If you are going for a more mature Halloween porch theme, then you can always go with movie characters that have scared us for years. Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Pinhead and Freddy Krueger are but a handful of movie monsters that you can use to jazz up your porch for Halloween. Be careful about how involved and mature you create this theme, however, because you may scare the little ones more than intended. Today's Halloween make up and costumes can be incredibly realistic and are not always appropriate for the younger crowd.

Alice In Wonderland

If you're looking for a Halloween porch theme that is a bit more geared for the innocent, then Alice in Wonderland offers numerous characters and themes to choose from. Set your front porch up as a Wonderland here on earth, and the young ones will flock to your porch like bees to honey. As a matter of fact, most Disney characters make for a wonderful front porch Halloween theme.

Setting up a front porch Halloween theme is rather easy if you take the time to consider what it is you love about Halloween. If you decorate a theme that is close to your passion, then you are sure to have a setup that you will be proud of. Take your time, and do not forget to add the tiny details that makes a Halloween themed front porch special. Always consider safety first, and never set up a sudden jolting scare anywhere near steps. If you are wanting to have a scare such as this, do it before they reach the steps as this is the most common Halloween danger. You do not want anyone falling off your front porch from the scare!
