Talk about the negative impact of global warming is abundant. You may be surprised to hear that there are positive effects associated with climate change caused by global warming. In order to make an educated decision, it's always best to hear both sides of the argument. In the case of global warming, the cons do outweigh the pros. Nevertheless, consideration must be given to the pros of climate change.

Pros of Global Warming

Longer growing season. A warmer climate means a longer growing season. This could be helpful as the world's population grows. A longer growing season could allow for multiple planting of vegetables in one season. It could also mean that plants such as tomatoes, which are secret perennials, could be harvested longer. This would mean an increase in the food supply.

Healthier plants. Due to the increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, some plants will become healthier. Unlike us, plants breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. With the thinning of the ozone layer comes an increase in carbon dioxide. The added supply of carbon dioxide might benefit some plants. They could grow stronger and healthier.

Warmer weather. Warm temperatures may get us outdoors more. As far as creature comforts go, climate changes will include warmer weather. This means more time for outdoor activities such as swimming. There will be less fuel used to heat homes since the warm season will be longer lasting. Less fuel usage means less harmful chemicals pumped into the atmosphere.

Cons of Global Warming

Plants damaged by higher temperatures. Unfortunately some fruits, vegetables and grains would decrease in production with higher temperatures caused by global warming. Not all plants thrive in higher temperatures. Some plants actually need periods of cold or fluctuating temperatures to maintain crisp freshness. Those plants that shun warm temperatures would fail with global warming climate change.

Damaged ozone. The main result of climate change is a thinning ozone layer. Excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere damages the ozone layer. The ozone protects us from harmful solar radiation. Ultraviolet radiation is already increasing at an alarming rate. This results in an increase in skin cancer and other related conditions. The human body thrives on sunlight but too much can have deadly consequences.

Polar melting. With climate change comes warmer weather. Unfortunately this will eventually cause the polar ice caps to melt. More and more of the earth will be covered in water. This means less room for our growing population. It also leads to the extinction of many animals who rely on the polar regions for survival. The melting of the polar ice caps will further climate change due to the warming of the oceans.

Climate change due to global warming has both positive and negative effects. Warmer climate means a longer growing season. Not all plants thrive in a warm climate. An increase in carbon dioxide is good for plants but also destroys the ozone layer. Warm temperatures mean more fun in the sun. Ultraviolet radiation from the damaged ozone increases our risk of skin cancer. It will also cause polar ice caps to melt and flood. This leaves less room for our growing population and renders some arctic animals extinct. In the case of climate change, the cons outweigh the pros.
