Eczema can be annoying, embarrassing, and even painful. Depending on its severity, you may be trying to hide it under cosmetics, or allowing it to disrupt your everyday life. If your physician has already ruled out any possibility of allergies or other medical causes for your skin problem, you may wish to try some methods to get rid of eczema on your own.

There are a number of natural remedies for eczema. Some people have success with natural remedies while others do not. You can try these methods and see if one works for you. They consist of natural products which you may already have at home. They are all inexpensive, healthy, and completely safe to use.

Oatmeal has long been a popular treatment for a variety of skin problems. It can be helpful to those who suffer from eczema as well. Depending upon the part of your body that is affected, you can make an oatmeal paste for your face or hands, or use it as a soothing bath for larger areas.

Aloe is another popular treatment for all kinds of skin problems. It has natural healing properties which can relieve the itching of eczema. Instead of purchasing aloe creams or other expensive products, you can grow your own aloe plant at home. A careful cut in the aloe plant will produce a liquid substance which you can apply to your skin. It will provide soothing relief, and help your skin heal naturally.

Honey also contains natural healing properties. As raw honey can contain harmful bacteria, it is best to use pasteurized honey. You can also use the combination of honey and oatmeal. You can leave it on your skin until it has completely dried, and then rinse it all off.

If your eczema is severe, and none of these natural remedies provide relief, you can ask for help from your physician. He or she may recommend a prescription medication in pill form, or a topical cream which also requires a prescription. A prescription cream is more effective than creams or lotions that you can purchase over the counter.

If you are prone to eczema, you may be able to lessen its occurrence or its severity by some basic lifestyle changes. While they may not prevent outbreaks altogether, they can be helpful. One example is to never allow harsh chemicals or cleansing materials to reach your skin. Wearing plastic gloves when you wash dishes and clean your house is a good beginning. If your skin is bothered by plastic, you can find gloves made of latex or plain rubber at nearly any store.

Another example of taking special precautions is if your home has dry heat during the winter months. This can cause your skin to become dry, itchy, and flaky. It can also result in an outbreak of eczema. A mild lotion can prevent the dry heat from affecting your skin. Equally importantly, you should avoid extreme temperature changes. When you go outdoors during extreme temperature conditions, you can protect your skin with appropriate clothing.
