Tattoo Placement Ideas

A tattoo can be an important part of your self-expression. A lot of thought needs to go into the design and the establishment you choose. One of the most important aspects though is tattoo placement. Finding the perfect spot for your new piece of art can prove difficult and nerve-wracking. You want to show off your tattoo, which, after all, took a lot of time, money, and pain to produce. However, you may or may not want to show it off all the time.

Before you make a final decision about where you want to be inked, you will first need to consider your lifestyle. For some, rocking a huge dragon across your neck may be perfectly acceptable. Others, however, who have a nine to five job which begs discretion when flashing body art, may consider the possibility that your tattoo needs to be fully covered at times. Though you may not have a job like that yet, you need to consider that at some point in your life, you probably will.

When youngsters have first reached the age, they can sign for their very own tattoos. But before they have to worry about finding and keeping a career, they can make the mistake of placing a tattoo in a very visible spot, to make it easier to show them off to their friends. Later, they may regret these choices, as their art, no matter how interesting or beautiful it is, can make it quite difficult to find even a job flipping burgers at your local greasy spoon.

Good spots that are easy to cover are your back, your upper thighs (which are also good for a large canvas), your collarbone, and your upper arms. You can cover tattoos on your calves or your forearms with long pants and long sleeves, but you need to know that you are able to wear these things comfortably at work before you decide to place a tattoo on either of these areas. A tattoo on the back of your neck can be covered with your hair, if you wear it long enough. If you like a short crop, however, the back of your neck may not be your best bet.

Aside from your lifestyle, you will also want to consider your tolerance for pain. Any tattoo will result in a certain amount of discomfort. However, some areas of your body are more sensitive than others. Parts of your body where you have more meat on your bones will prove less sensitive, and therefore may be the better choice for those who have a lower tolerance for pain. Your wrists, ankles, and the nape of your neck are covered in thin skin, with a lot of nerves near the surface. These areas are not for the faint of heart, when it comes to tattooing. The sensation produced by the tattoo gun has been described as being like a cat scratch, with a bit of burning.

Remember that tattoos last a lifetime. You need to choose a design and a spot you can live with forever.
