Seventh-day Adventist principles are centered on a church of Christian denomination that distinguishes itself by observance of Saturday as the Sabbath. It is considered to be the 12th largest religious body in the world. The theology of Seventh-day Adventists will match with that of Protestant Christian teachings such as the trinity and the infallibility of scripture. There are many beliefs of the church that center around diet and health, holistic understanding of the person, religious liberty and conservative values and lifestyle.

The Sabbath

Seventh-day Adventists believe that God created the world in six days and used the seventh day for rest. They believe that He instituted the Sabbath day for everyone as a remembrance of creation. Members of this faith see the fourth commandment as God’s Law, and He requires the seventh day Sabbath to be a day of rest, worship and ministry directly related to the teachings and practices of Jesus. The day is used to fellowship with other Seventh-day Adventists and to spend time with God. Furthermore, they believe that the Sabbath is God’s continuous sign of His covenant between Him and His people.

Baptism

A Seventh-day Adventist principle, as it relates to baptism, highlights a confession of the belief in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Baptism also represents a testament of the death of sin and the symbolic walk in a new life. You will now acknowledge Christ as Lord and Savior, and you become one of His people who will be received as a member of his church.

The Law of God

Seventh-day Adventists believe that the Law of God is contained in the Ten Commandments, and they can be observed in the life of Christ. These commandments express God’s love, will and purpose that concerns the behavior of humans and relationships of people of all ages. They are considered to be standard in God’s judgment and through the Holy Spirit the commandments can be used to point out sin. Salvation is all about grace and not works. Additionally, salvation is a direct result of your obedience to the commandments. This adherence will help you to develop the relevant characteristics of a Christian and improve your sense of well being.

Modest Life

Another Seventh-day Adventist belief is that they should live a very simple and controlled lifestyle. This includes dressing very simple which forbids the wearing of jewelry with the exception of watches and wedding bands which must be simple. Dancing or movies are seen as worldly. This is the way that lusts may enter your life, so you are discouraged from partaking in such activities.

Abstinence

The Seventh-day Law encourages you not to partake in alcohol, drugs and tobacco. Animal meat is believed to be unclean. Therefore, many Seventh-day Adventists tend to be vegetarians.

The Seventh-day Adventist thoughts on religion are very strict. The belief and adherence to the tenets are mandatory and must be consistently followed. This religion is one that puts emphasis on everything they do and tries to keep their members in good standing at all times.
