Almost everyone thinks of "country music" when it comes to Nashville, Tennessee. But don’t let that turn you off; there’s a lot more to this city than you’d imagine.
Grab your golf clubs and hit the Gaylord Springs Golf Links to get in your 18 holes. What's interesting about this golf course is its Springhouse, a building that encloses a natural spring at the fourth hole.
If hiking is your thing, check out the Radnor Lake State Natural Area. Here you'll find six miles of hiking trails, as well as areas to just relax and enjoy the view. It's also a great spot to enjoy some bird-watching.
For aquatic fun, check out Wave Country in the Two Rivers Parkway. Here you'll get to enjoy swimming and riding through waterslides.
In the mood for a little antiquing? Pay a visit to the Green Hills Antique Mall, where a vide variety of antiques are on display for your shopping and viewing pleasure.
The Farmers Market is also a great place to swing by if you're in the mood for a little shopping. Over 200 open-air stalls at this year-round marketplace showcase local produce as well as flea market items and international products.
When you want to grab a bite to eat, visit an award-winning restaurant with an award-winning chef: Restaurant Zola, which serves a hearty Mediterranean-style, vegetarian-friendly menu.
If you’re a history buff, you might want to visit the Belle Meade Plantation which saw quite a bit of action during the Civil War. You’ll find marks from bullets fired during the War on its columns. Its nearby cabin remains untouched since its construction in the late 1700s.
Take a walk on the wild side at the Nashville Zoo at Grassmere. Here you'll get to see cheetahs, meerkats and tigers in a natural setting, as well as a 3-acre elephant habitat, in addition to a giraffe habitat. You'll also get to feed the birds in an open aviary and enjoy animal shows.
You’ll also want to check out the General Jackson Showboat, an actual paddlewheel boat harkening to the days of Mark Twain, except this boat sails on the Cumberland River. Guests can enjoy down-home Southern meals and live Broadway-style entertainment.
Another famous attraction in Nashville is The Parthenon, a Greek-style mammoth structure which houses breathtaking art and sculptures. The Parthenon boasts the world’s largest doors (which weigh seven and a half tons each), as well as the country’s tallest indoor sculpture. Best of all, admission is affordable.
Finally, take the time to learn about local art by paying a visit to In the Gallery. You’ll get to check out some of the most prominent African art, as well as sculptures and photography.
Nashville is hands-down a visitor-friendly city, and there’s always something interesting to do and see. There’s never a boring day for anyone in a city that, while famous for country music, offers so much more for all kinds of interests.
